Welcome to the first edition of Pro Football Insight's Top 10. In this week's segment, we take a look at the NFL's top ten quarterbacks of all-time. Accuracy, playoff appearances and many other attributes helped make this list unique in it's own way.
1. Joe Montana
This 4-time Super Bowl champion created the word clutch. Hall of Fame Coach Bill Walsh and All-Pro Jerry Rice help Montana's cause.
2. Tom Brady
Brady, a 3-time Super Bowl champion, has done it all. At one point, he had the single season record for passing touchdowns. His list of achievements is too long. When he retires, he might be considered the best of all-time.
3. Peyton Manning
The greatest regular season quarterback in the history of professional football. He's a machine with flawless mechanics, but when the playoffs roll around, something goes awry.
4. Brett Favre
The NFL's iron man. Nothing brought down Favre (except BountyGate in New Orleans). The best gunslinger of all-time displayed his talents with Green Bay, New York and Minnesota.
5. Dan Marino
Even though Marino never won the big game, his game was smooth to watch. He never did much of anything wrong on or off the field. If he had a Super Bowl, he would be considered to better by some.
6. John Elway
Elway will be remembered for his rocket arm. It was something special to see him sling it in Denver. He carried that team on his back until Terrell Davis came into the fold.
7. Johnny Unitas
The original greatest quarterback of all-time falls in this list because of the new age of football. He was and is everything a quarterback should be, but we wonder was it because of the era he played in.
8. Steve Young
Taking over Montana's team bode well for the southpaw. This is what happens when a team actually develops a quarterback.
9. Roger Staubach
Mr. America himself. Young boys, playing football in backyards, wanted to be Staubach. He is the original Dallas Cowboy.
10. Drew Brees
Brees might not be on most people's lists just yet, but he deserves to be. He has thrown for over 5,000 yards in multiple seasons, breaking records year in and year out. He's the original 6' quarterback, experts said couldn't succeed in the NFL.
