The NFL needs Brett Favre, and Brett Favre needs the NFL. ESPN's Adam Adam Schefter reported on Mike and Mike that the St. Louis Rams contacted Favre about a potential comeback after learning Sam Bradford would be sidelined for the rest of the season. It got me thinking. Until Brett Favre is unable to throw a football, the rumor mill will not stop. So to much of the sporting world's chagrin, I present the top three teams that could use the services on the NFL's all-time great iron-man.
1. St. Louis Rams
Brett Favre would save the Ram's season, or at least make them competitive. He is already familiar with the offense, since offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer had coached him while with the New York Jets. According to Favre's agent, Bus Cook, the quarterback is as good as he's ever looked. So maybe he could get the ball to Tavon Austin. We know Bradford couldn't. Personally, I think he's an upgrade.
2. Houston Texans
The Texans should have been flying to Hattiesburg, Mississippi the second Matt Schaub got injured. The Texans are built to win now. They have a stout offensive line and a great running game. Favre wouldn't have to do much. He would manage the game, but possibly provide the spark necessary to ignite the team. Having Andre Johnson and rookie DeAndre Hopkins would definitely be enticing.
3. Minnesota Vikings
Why not go back to the team that got you so close to another Super Bowl? The Vikings have what it takes to make the playoffs. It's too late to win the division, but a wild card spot might be in play if you are willing to find lightning in a bottle yet again. I think former Green Bay receiver, Greg Jennings, could make a pitch to Favre that he couldn't refuse.
While all of these possibilities sound good on paper, none of them will happen. Sure, I would love to see the talents of #4 take the field again, but that's a pipe dream. As long as Favre is physically able, his phone will ring. He will listen, but ultimately say no. And as long as that is happening, you'll have people like me writing crazy articles about a possible comeback of a 44 year old man. Enough said.
